President Jacob G Zuma extends condolences to Kenya following recent grenade attacks targeting Kenyans in a nightclub and at a bus terminal
President Jacob G. Zuma, on behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of South Africa, has learnt with shock and dismay of the hand grenades that were thrown at crowds of Kenyans who were at a nightclub and a bus terminal in the early hours and afternoon of 24 October 2011, respectively.
The South African Government is deeply saddened by the loss of life and critical injuries resulting from these attacks. The South African Government condemns in the strongest possible terms these acts of terrorism aimed at maiming and hurting innocent people. Whatever reasons prompted the perpetration of these deeds, does not justify the killing of innocent people.
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation is in contact with the high Commission in Nairobi and is monitoring the situation and will communicate further developments in this regard.
The South African government calls upon any persons or organisations responsible for these atrocious deeds, to refrain from using indiscriminate violence to achieve their aims; but to pursue their objectives in a dignified and peaceful manner.
The Government of South Africa further expresses its deep felt condolences to the families and relatives of those who have died and to those who have been injured in the two incidents, and prays for a speedy recovery for the injured.
