The South African Government Statement on the car bomb that exploded at the United Nations Building in the Nigerian capital, Abuja on Friday 26 August 2011

The Government and the people of the Republic of South Africa wish to express its deepest condolences to the Government and the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as well as the staff of the United Nations based in Nigeria, on the tragic loss of life and the destruction of property following the car bomb that exploded at the United Nations Building in Abuja on Friday.

The South African Government reiterates its unequivocal condemnation of all such acts of terror and expresses its fullest confidence that the authorities of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will ensure that the perpetrators of these heinous acts face the full might of the law.

In this moment of pain and suffering, in particular in the case of those families who have lost their loved ones, the Government and people of South Africa’s thoughts and prayers  go out to all those who have been affected by this deplorable act of terror.
