International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Fransman arrives in New York for a working visit

The International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister, Mr Marius Fransman, has arrived in New York for a working visit scheduled for 11-18 June 2011.

This working visit takes place within the context of strengthening the important bilateral and multilateral partnership with the United States and the United Nations (and its institutions) focusing on promoting South Africa’s national priorities and maintaining strategic platforms of co-operation.

Accordingly, Deputy Minister Fransman will have a bilateral meeting with the United Nations Development programme Regional Director for Africa where issues of the status of the proposed strategic partnership between the UNDP and South Africa are discussed.

Deputy Minister Fransman will also attend and deliver a statement at the opening of the annual session of the Executive Board of the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS in which South Africa is a member and also visit New York Stock Exchange to meet with South African companies listed at the New York Securities Exchange in preparation of the Stock Exchanges’ Conference to be held in South Africa later in the year.

Deputy Minister Fransman will also visit Washington DC where he is expected to address a seminar at the CSIS/Woodrow Wilson Centre for International Scholars in Washington on a number of issues, which amongst others include:

  • Economic Diplomacy, Investment in Africa, BRICS, Regional Integration,
  • Development Focus in Africa, with focus on the South African Development Partnership Agency (SADPA)
  • Transformation of International Institutions; and
  • The US/SA bilateral and economic relations.

Deputy Minister Fransman is scheduled to arrive back in South Africa on 19 June 2011.
