Deputy Minister Marius Fransman to conduct a public lecture at the University of the Western Cape – May 12, 2011

The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr. Marius Fransman will participate in a Public Participation Programme at the University of the Western Cape. The Deputy Minister’s programme will entail a Public Lecture at the UWC’s New Life Science Lecture Hall at 13h00 on Wednesday, 12 May 2011.

As has been the tradition of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, the Deputy Minister will use the opportunity of this lecture to interact with the staff, students and broader academia – in an effort to ensure that South Africans, across the board, understand the pre-occupations, challenges and successes of our country’s  foreign policy. Furthermore, that most South Africans are empowered to participate in our foreign policy discourse, in a way that enriches it and makes it more representative of the broader views, thus ensuring shared ownership to the final product.  

The Deputy Minister will speak to the theme: “South Africa’s role in the international Arena”, capturing along the way, what South Africa considers to be its role and function, be it at the SACU, SADC, AU, within the Institutions of Global Governance, various alliances and the international arena. It is expected that, the lecture will help the Department to benefit from the views of the participants.  

It is anticipated that during the public lecturer the department’s talent management will exhibit and interact with students highlighting career opportunities offered by the Department.
