Deputy Minister Fransman returns from SADC meeting in Angola

The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Marius Fransman, has concluded his visit to Luanda, Angola, where he led a South African government delegation to the SADC Extraordinary Council of Ministers Meeting. The Council of Ministers was preceded by a meeting of senior officials, which took place from 18-19 November 2011.

The Council of Ministers reflected on SADC policy matters, SADC integration strategy with other regions and issues relating to human resources. The deliberations were aimed at bolstering institutional capacity of SADC administratively.

On the margins of the Ministerial Meeting, the Troika also discussed elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo and expressed satisfaction with all the systems to date. The Troika also expressed appreciation for South Africa and Angola’s support towards the DRC as the country prepares for elections.

With respect to the political situation in Madagascar, the Troika noted the establishment of the government and encouraged all the parties to continue working together in the interest of the country and the people of Madagascar.
