Official Visit by the Deputy President Mr Kgalema Motlanthe to the Democratic Republic of São Tomé & Príncipe on 3 September 2011.

Pretoria- South Africa’s Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will attend the Inauguration ceremony of President - Elect Mr Manuel Pinto Da Costa of the Democratic Republic of Săo Tomé and Princípe, in São Tomé scheduled on 3 September 2011.

The event is the culmination of the fourth democratic election in the country. It represents a reaffirmation and consolidation of Săo Toméan democracy. South Africa and Săo Tome share the same values especially a dedication to constitutional democracy and good governance.

Accordingly, Deputy President will take advantage of this occasion to renew the bilateral relations and solidarity between our two peoples. He will further recommit our government to the enthusiastic implementation of the General Cooperation Agreement signed between the two countries in April 2005. This agreement will contribute towards closer links between our two countries in all areas of human endeavour, including the expansion of trade and investment.

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe is expected to return to the Republic of South Africa on Saturday 4 September 2011.
