South African Government congratulates Tunisians

The South African Government has noted the announcement by the Chairman of the Independent Higher Authority for Elections (IHAE) of Tunisia, Mr Kamel Jendoubi, in which Ennahdha was announced a winner following the Constituent Assembly elections held recently.

The South African Government extends its sincere congratulations to Ennahdha on its victory. In this regard, the South African Government wishes to reaffirm its desire to further enhance its strong relations with Tunisia.

Furthermore, the South African Government and its citizens reiterate the commitment to continue working with the Government and the people of Tunisia for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

The South African Government also wishes to extend its appreciation and respect to all political parties and the candidates who participated in the elections, as well as to the sterling work carried out by the Independent Higher Authority for Elections (IHAE) and all the institutions which have contributed to the success of the democratic elections in Tunisia.

We believe these elections will go a long way in building a democratic culture in Tunisia in which the will of the people reigns supreme.
