Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe to attend the United Nations High-Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS, New York.
Pretoria – South African Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will lead a delegation to the United Nations High-Level meeting on HIV/AIDS scheduled to take place on 8-10 June 2011 in New York, United States of America.
Deputy President Motlanthe’s participation takes place within the context of promoting multilateral relations in the global system of governance. The purpose of the meeting is for member states to renew the political will and recommit to new targets in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Member states will have an opportunity to identify challenges, recommend strategies and review progress and map the future course of the global AIDS response. It will also give Member States an opportunity to recommit to sustainable response to HIV/AIDS, broader health issues and development agenda.
Accordingly, the High-Level meeting is being held at a critical time in moving from the universal access agenda to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
Deputy President Motlanthe will be accompanied by Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, Minister of Health and other senior government officials.
