Deputy Minister Fransman celebrates youth day with South African students in Washington

International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Marius Fransman has on Wednesday, celebrated youth day with exchanged South African students in Washington.

Deputy Minister Fransman who is in Washington for a working visit shared time with students from South Africa who are in Washington for the South Africa Washington programme (SAWIP). In his speech Deputy Minister Fransman expressed acknowledgement of the great catalyst that that day on June 16th 1976 in Soweto has played in inspiring generations of young people in the Anti-Apartheid struggle to take action-even at the expense of sacrificing their lives.

During his visit Deputy Minister Fransman has met with Congressman Donald Payne and Under Secretary Bill Burns of the US Department of State on consolidating bilateral relations and issues of cooperation between the two countries. The two principals also explored co-operation opportunities between South African Development Agency (SADPA) and United States Agency (USAID) and development; security and stability issues on the African region.

Deputy Minister Fransman concludes his working visit to the United States of America on 19 June 2011.
