The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Marius Fransman will address a group of “Women in Empowerment Network” on opportunities in Africa.
Cape Town - The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Mr. Marius Fransman will address a group of Women in Empowerment Network at the Oyo Restuarant, The Victoria & Alfred Hotel, V&A Waterfront on the 8th February 2011.
The meeting takes place within the context of South Africa’s role as appointed by the African Union to lead the continent’s drive towards infrastructure development.
The Deputy Minister will reflect on the empowerment of women in Africa and explore strategies to unlock the opportunities in the priority areas identified for Africa by President Jacob Zuma including:
- Telecommunications
- Bulk and social Infrastructure
- Transport and rail in particular
- Energy and especially alternative energy
The function will also reflect on the experience and success of the Women in Construction programme championed by the Deputy Minister during his tenure as Western Cape MEC for Transport and Public Works in the Western Cape Provincial Government. In addition, the women will be thanking the Deputy Minister for his pioneering role in the empowerment of women in construction and the broader infrastructure arena.
“The role played by women in the struggle for liberation and the ultimate goal of achieving total economic empowerment spearheaded by the ANC government cannot be under estimated and must be pursued with determination”, said Deputy Minister Marius Fransman.
