Deputy Minister Fransman to deliver Keynote Address on Development and Humanitarian Assistance
International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Marius Fransman will deliver a keynote address at a session on Development and Humanitarian Assistance in Africa organised by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO).
South Africa’s role in the development of Africa has, through the years, gained prominence. The African Renaissance Fund has assisted with projects on the Africa Continent aimed at promoting democracy, humanitarian assistance, the prevention and resolution of conflict and good governance.
There has been an increased involvement by South African-based humanitarian and development organisations in Africa and the rest of the world. The most recent contributions and assistance in the crises in Somalia and Madagascar have shown that South African aid agencies are more than capable of providing relief to the people of Africa.
It is in this regard that DIRCO has organised a session where South African-based relief organisations will deliver presentations on how their work has benefitted countries in Africa at the most dire of times. This session will also provide an opportunity for participants to engage one another on issues of humanitarian and development assistance which may lead to future collaborations.
