President Jacob Zuma sends Condolences following the passing of Malawian President Bingu wa Mutharika

The South African Government has learnt with sadness the news of the passing of Malawi's President Bingu wa Mutharika.

On behalf of the Government and the people of South Africa, His Excellency President Jacob Zuma has expressed his heartfelt condolences to President Mutharika's wife and children, family, Government and the people of Malawi.

President Zuma said: "As the Government and the people of South Africa, we reach out in our thoughts and prayers to the people of Malawi during this difficult time of mourning the death of President Mutharika.”

President Zuma also said "We call on the people of Malawi to remain calm. We are confident that Malawi's democratic institutions will ensure a peaceful and orderly transition".
