Media Statement

The South African government has learnt with horror about  the kidnapping of 12 year old Nayati Shamilin Moodliar in Kuala Lumpur in the morning of 27 April 2012.

The young Nayati Moodliar was on his way to school when he was kidnapped.  The South African government has been in contact with the family both in Malaysia and South Africa since the incident took place.  The South African High Commissioner in Malaysia has visited the family to express government’s support to them.  The High Commission is in daily contact with the relevant authorities.

The South African government condemns in the strongest possible terms this act of criminality and calls on the government of Malaysia to continue with its efforts to secure the release of Nayati Moodliar and to bring the perpetrators to book.  We also call on the public to support the Moodliar family until they are reunited with their son.
