President Jacob Zuma visits Angola for SADC Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government
His Excellency President Jacob Zuma will undertake a working visit to Luanda, Republic of Angola, to attend the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government scheduled for Friday, 01 June 2012.
The SADC Extraordinary Summit will review the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) of SADC, the regional blue print to accelerate economic and social development as well as regional economic integration.
In addition, the Summit will discuss the Regional Infrastructure Development Programme and preparations for the upcoming African Union (AU) Summit to be held in Malawi in July 2012.
Amongst other things, the July Summit in Malawi will elect candidates for various positions in the AU Commission, including the chairperson. SADC has nominated the South African Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, for the position of AU Commission Chairperson.
The Extraordinary Summit in Luanda will be preceded by a Ministerial meeting of the Double Troika, which includes Angola, Namibia, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and Tanzania, as well as a meeting of the Council of Ministers and a Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Troika of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation on 31 May 2012.
The President will be supported by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.
