MR D B FELDMAN (COPE) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION:

Whether the Department has entered into any agreement with President Rajoelina of Madagascar regarding a certain person (details furnished) who took refuge to the SA Embassy; if not, what is the position in this regard; if so, what are the relevant details?

REPLY:

  1. The Department did not enter into an agreement with the High Transitional Authority (HAT) regarding a certain person (details furnished, but the South African Embassy engaged with the HAT to facilitate an agreement between the certain person and the HAT that guaranteed the safety of the certain person’s departure from the Embassy. The matter is regarded as having been resolved in a constructive and humanitarian manner.
