MR K MUBU (DA) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION:

1. What were the findings of the investigation be a certain law firm (name furnished) as reported in the Business Day on 23 January 2012;

2. whether she has taken any steps to resolve the issues highlighted in the report; if  not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

REPLY:

1. The Department of International Relations and Cooperation instructed a law firm to conduct an independent investigation into certain allegations and counter-allegations levelled against the previous senior management of the Department by the National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU).  The investigation found that the most serious allegations of corruption and tender irregularities lacked any substance.  Certain other complaints involving labour relations issues, were upheld.

2. The Department is in the process of setting up a mechanism to address the issues highlighted in the report.
