Press Release

31 December 2013

South Africa condemns attacks in the DRC. The South African Government has noted with concern the events that took place on Monday, 30 December 2013, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

In this regard, South Africa condemns in the strongest terms the attacks perpetrated in Kinshasa, as well as the attack carried out by armed elements in Lubumbashi, resulting in fatalities.

These attacks were carried out at a time when sustained  efforts are being made to further dialogue among all concerned stakeholders in the DRC. The South African Government totally rejects the use of force which undermines such efforts and threaten to destabilise the country.

South Africa will continue to support the role of SADC, AU and the UN in supporting the Government and the people of the DRC in their efforts to consolidate peace, security and stability throughout the country.
