Joint Declaration by the Deputy Foreign Ministers of Ecuador and South Africa
The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, Marius Fransman, paid an Official Visit to his Ecuadorian counterpart, Dr. Mario Albuja, on September 5, 2013, with the purpose of carrying out consultations and reviewing the most important topics in the bilateral agenda between Ecuador and South Africa.
Such a meeting was held at the Foreign Ministry; it resulted in the further strengthening of the excellent relations between the two countries and in the reaching of agreements that will foster the bilateral agenda in the political, cultural, economic, and cooperation areas.
The two Deputy Ministers agreed to create a Political, Social and Cultural Commission, and an Economic, Trade and Natural Resources Commission that will be in charge of monitoring cooperation in such areas, including their corresponding objectives; also, it will take care of the elaboration of roadmaps containing quantifiable landmarks and goals.
In the international arena, the Deputy Ministers of Ecuador and South Africa have:
- Expressed their disapproval on the use of chemical weapons.
- Rejected any unilateral action, coming from a foreign country, against Syria.
- Called for an internal dialogue between all the parties to the conflict in Syria.
- Called for the international community to support a domestic pacific solution to the conflict in Syria.
