Minister Nkoana-Mashabane to receive her counterpart, H.E. Dr Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesus, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane is scheduled to host her counterpart from the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesus, for the Third Session of the South Africa-Ethiopia Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) in Durban, on Thursday, 28 March 2013.

The Minister is expected to hold bilateral discussions with Dr.Tedros Adhanom, and will exchange views on strengthening relations between the two countries, as well as on issues of mutual concern, both in the bilateral and multilateral sphere. South Africa views Ethiopia as a strategic partner on the African continent at both bilateral and multilateral levels. South Africa and Ethiopia have entered into a number of bilateral agreements to establish a regulatory framework to facilitate Political, Economic and Social interactions between the two countries.

An Implementation Plan was signed during the last JMC to ensure regular interaction between the two countries at Ministerial and Senior Officials levels for closer cooperation.

Total trade between the two countries is currently standing at R302 million and growing
