President Zuma congratulates former Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka

President Jacob Zuma wishes to congratulate the former Deputy President of the Republic, Ms Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka on being appointed as the Executive Director of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women, or UN Women.

Ms Mlambo-Ngcuka replaces Ms Michelle Bachelet, a former president of Chile who had stepped down a few months ago.

“On behalf of government and the people of South Africa, we congratulate the former Deputy President on this crucial appointment. It is a true measure of recognition not only of her contribution to the advancement of women in South Africa, but also an acknowledgement of the considerably influential and progressive role that South Africa and its people continue to play in the global affairs. We wish her all the best in this challenging task,” said President Jacob Zuma.
