President Zuma returns from a working visit to Nigeria
His Excellency President Jacob Zuma of the Republic of South Africa has today, 17 April 2013, concluded his working visit to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
President Zuma held discussions with the Nigerian President, His Excellency Mr Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja. The two Presidents reaffirmed the good mutual relations between the two countries and confirmed Nigeria's incoming official visit to South Africa by President Jonathan next month.
President Zuma anticipated that most of the issues of a bilateral nature between the two countries, including the Bi-National Commission, will be discussed thoroughly during the visit.
During the bilateral meeting, some of the matters discussed by the two Heads of State included the situation in Mali and the Central African Republic as well as the general security and stability in Africa and the upcoming 50th Anniversary of the Organisation of African Unity/African Union.
In this regard, Presidents Zuma and Jonathan shared ideas on how the continental body can do things better to achieve a stable, peaceful, democratic and prosperous Africa as well as deal with matters that emerge from time to time, such as the growing trend of using unconstitutional means to acquire governance and then seek to legitimise such governments through the AU and other bodies.
President Zuma was accompanied by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.
