President Zuma to lead a SA delegation to the SADC Extra-Ordinary Troika Summit in the United Republic of Tanzania
His Excellency President Jacob Zuma will lead a South African delegation to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Extra-Ordinary Troika Summit to be hosted in Dar es Salaam, the United Republic of Tanzania, on 10 January 2013.
The Troika Summit is preceded by the Ministerial Committee of the Organ (MCO) Troika. It is expected that the MCO Troika discussions will inform the decisions of the Troika Summit.
South Africa in its capacity as the outgoing Chair of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation will participate in the Organ Troika Summit, which will consider reports on the recent political and security developments in Madagascar and the DRC, respectively.
The United Republic of Tanzania is the current Chair of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation (SADC Organ), whilst the Republics of South Africa and Namibia complete the Troika of the Organ. The Republic of Mozambique will participate in its capacity as Chair of SADC.
The Organ Troika Summit plus Mozambique will provide an opportunity for the Heads of State and Government to be appraised of the latest developments in relation to the implementation of the decisions following the last Extra-Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government held on 7-8 December 2012 in Dar es Salaam.
SADC continues to serve as the primary vehicle for South Africa’s foreign policy to achieve regional development and integration within Southern Africa. South Africa has a vested interest in seeing the regional political and security situation improve, which will create positive conditions for the improvement of the quality of life of South Africans and SADC citizens in general.
President Zuma will be supported by the Minister of International Relations and Co-operation, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.
