Minister Nkoana-Mashabane to undertake working visit to the Republic of Senegal

International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane is scheduled to undertake a Working Visit to the Republic of Senegal on 14 March 2013.

The Minister will meet with her counterpart, H.E Mr Mankeur Ndiaye, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, to strengthen bilateral relations between South Africa and Senegal.

South Africa and Senegal’s cordial bilateral relations were institutionalised with the inauguration in Pretoria of the Joint Commission of Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) in 2008. The JCBC meeting has translated into bilateral Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding in the following areas: The Promotion of Investments; as well as Cooperation in the fields of Civil Aviation, Health, Technology and Defence.

Negotiations are underway to further strengthen bilateral relations in other areas such as Transport, Economic and Infrastructure Development, Fisheries and Culture.

The Ministers will also use the opportunity to brief each other on regional developments and discuss multilateral issues of mutual interest.

It is expected that Minister Nkoana-Mashabane will discuss preparations for the upcoming BRICS Leaders-Africa Dialogue Forum, scheduled for 27 March 2013 in Durban
