Deputy Minister Fransman to travel to Arcueil, Paris to attend ceremony in honour of anti-apartheid activist Dulcie September
International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Fransman will attend a ceremony and pay tribute in honour of the commemoration of Dulcie September in Arcueil, Paris on 29 March 2013.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the death Dulcie September who was assassinated on 29 March 1988 in Arcueil. Ms September has been honoured by the erection of a plaque in Arcueil.
The Dulcie September Avenue and a secondary school, the Dulcie September College, have been named after her, and her memory is celebrated annually.
For this year’s ceremony, an extensive programme has been planned in honour of the anti-apartheid stalwart at the Dulcie September College and at the town hall in Arcueil.
In 2009, Dulcie September was posthumously honoured by the Government of the Republic of South Africa, for her contribution to the struggle for a non-racial, non-sexist, just and democratic South Africa. She was awarded the National Order of Luthuli: Silver for dedicating her life to the fight against apartheid.
