President Zuma conveys condolences following the passing on of Somali Ambassador

On behalf of the Government and the people of South Africa, His Excellency President Jacob Zuma has conveyed a message of condolences to the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Somalia following the passing on of the Somali Ambassador to South Africa, His Excellency Sayid Sheriff. Ambassador Sheriff passed away today, Wednesday, 10 July 2013, in Pretoria.

President Zuma said: "As the first Somali Ambassador to  South Africa, Ambassador Sheriff will always be remembered as having strengthened relations between our two countries.  In this time of mourning, our thoughts are with the Ambassador Sheriff’s family. We wish the family strength during this difficult time.”

President Zuma added that: “The South African Government reaffirms its commitment to continue its diplomatic relations and solidarity with the Government and the people of the Federal Republic of Somalia.”  

Arrangements are being made for the repatriation of Ambassador Sheriff’s body to Somalia.
