President Zuma arrives in Addis Ababa for the AU 50th Anniversary

President Jacob Zuma has this morning, 24 May 2013, arrived in Addis Ababa, in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, to attend the 21ST Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union, scheduled to take place on 26 and 27 May. The President will also attend the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the African Union, taking place from the 24 to 27 May.

The theme of the Summit is “Pan-Africanism and the African Renaissance”. The year 2013 is dedicated to the celebration of the founding of the OAU on 25 May 1963.  The meeting will be the 24th Special Assembly of the African Union.  The celebrations will culminate in the issuance of the AU Proclamation on Monday 27 May, following deliberations on the theme.

President Zuma will be accompanied by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane; Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and Minister of State Security, Dr Siyabonga Cwele.
