MR MR E H ELOFF (DA) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION:

(a) What is South Africa's position on the new regime in Egypt and (b) what are the further relevant details

REPLY:

(a) South Africa, in support of the African Union (AU) Constitutive Act and Instruments, opposes all forms of unconstitutional changes of government. South Africa will be guided by the AU Peace and Security Council and the AU High-Level Panel for Egypt. The AU remains engaged with all the parties to the conflict in Egypt in finding a sustainable resolution to the present political crisis in that country.

(b) The South African Government has called on all Egyptians to embrace the path of national reconciliation which will contribute positively to the establishment of political stability in Egypt.
