QUESTION NO: 224 (CW316E)

PUBLISHED IN INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER NO: 16-2013 OF 31 MAY 2013

MRS EC VAN LINGEN (DA-EC) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATIONS:

(1) What is the current status of our international relations with the Republic of India?

REPLY:

(1) India is a particularly important and strategic partner for South Africa. The relations between our two countries are strong and historical, pre-dating the era of Gandhi. Four generations of South Africans of Indian descent have maintained strong cultural ties with India, while contributing to the development of South Africa politically, culturally and economically. India and South Africa share a common world vision and work closely together on various multilateral fora, for instance, NAM, G77 plus China, IOR-ARC, IBSA and BRICS amongst others.
