South Africa’s former Ambassador Welile Nhlapo to deliver the Eritrea–South Africa Festival (ERISA) Public Lecture

Eritrea’s governing party, the People’s Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), and the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Asmara, will host the 1st Public Lecture of the Eritrea–South Africa Festival (ERISA) in Asmara on Friday, 12 December 2014.

The Lecture will be delivered by former Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Welile Nhlapo, South African President Jacob Zuma’s former National Security Advisor, South Africa’s former Ambassador to Washington DC and President Nelson Mandela’s first Ambassador to the State of Eritrea.

The Lecture will be presided by an Eritrean-South African panel of youth scholars, practitioners and activists who are expected to address the subject, “South Africa 20 Years Later (1994-2014): The Challenge and Progress of Nation-Building’’. The ERISA event will take place at the historic Municipal Hall (Mazagajabit) in downtown Asmara.

The aim of the lecture is to seek common ground for progressive engagement on nation-building between Eritrea and South Africa.

The Lecture is the third event taking place after the ERISA Launch event of 30 October 2014 in Asmara, paving the way for a range of further activities in Eritrea and South Africa to celebrate 10 Years since the establishment of the Embassy of South Africa in Asmara (2004-2014).
