President Zuma to participate in the 5th Ordinary Summit of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region

His Excellency President Jacob Zuma will lead the South African delegation to the 5th Ordinary Summit of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 15 January 2014.

Member States of the ICGLR will discuss peace, stability and development in the region with a focus on the current situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the Central African Republic (CAR) and South Sudan. Angola will assume the chair of the ICGLR at the Summit.

The ICGLR members are Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic (CAR), Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.

On 04 November 2013, South Africa hosted a Joint Summit of SADC and the ICGLR  to discuss, amongst others,  the implementation of the Framework for Peace, Security and Cooperation for the DRC and the region.

President Zuma will be supported by Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation.
