Security Situation in Libya

10 June 2014

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation wishes to inform prospective South African travellers to and those currently resident in Libya that the prevailing security situation in many parts of Libya is cause for concern. South Africans travelling to or in Libya must ensure that they take all necessary safety precautions for their stay and travel whilst in the country.

It should be noted that it is still possible to travel in and out of Tripoli by normal commercial means but that might change if the security situation deteriorates further. South African citizens living and working in Libya may want to consider relocating until the security situation improves. However, the decision to travel or stay in Libya remains with the individual(s) concerned.

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation reiterates its call to all citizens travelling or working abroad to register on its online registration programme, Registration of South African Abroad (ROSA) so that we can be aware of your whereabouts in case of an emergency or disaster.

For enquiries please contact Mr Clayson Monyela, Spokesperson for the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, at 082 884 5974.
