Statement on the passing away of a Diplomat from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Pretoria

The South African Government has noted with serious concern and sadness news of the murder of a Moroccan diplomat in Pretoria, Mr Noureddine Fatmi, First Secretary responsible for Consular Affairs at the Moroccan Embassy in Pretoria.

The South African Government sends its condolences to the family of Mr Fatmi, his colleagues at the Moroccan Embassy in Pretoria, and the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco.

The Department has referred this matter to the Diplomatic Policing Unit which is currently investigating the matter so as to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for this heinous crime.

The Department prioritises the safety and security of diplomats and, to this end, is engaging the security cluster to take the necessary measures to protect our guests in South Africa.
