South African Government position with regard to the alleged establishment of a military base in Botswana by the US African Command

Ms M MOONSAMY TO ASK THE MINISTER OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION:

(1) What is the Government’s position with regard to the alleged establishment of a military base in Botswana by the US African Command?

(2) What is the Government’s position with regard to militarisation of Africa by Western countries?

REPLY:

(1) The South African Government has no knowledge of the alleged establishment of a military base by the US African Command.

(2)The South African Government has no knowledge of the alleged establishment of a military base by the US African Command.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

There is no evidence found to confirm the alleged establishment of a military base by the US African Command. It can however, be confirmed that the US Army is involved in training exercise with the Botswana Defence Force.
