PUBLISHED IN INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER NO: 7-2014 OF 5 NOVEMBER 2014

Mr A M Mncwango (IFP) to ask the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation:

(1) What actions will the Government take in order to assist with the investigation into the collapse of the church building in Nigeria that killed 80 South Africans? NO2684E

REPLY:

(1) The Lagos State Authorities have appointed a Coroner to investigate the accident and the inquest commenced on 13 October 2014. The Coroner has requested the support and cooperation of the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria by putting forward eyewitnesses and/or persons that could testify at the inquest. Given that the inquest takes place in a foreign sovereign State, the South African Government is currently seeking legal advice on the request.
