SA Government delegation takes part in a SADC Ministerial Meeting in Botswana
A South African Government delegation led by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, which also includes Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies and Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas is taking part in a meeting of the SADC Council of Ministers, taking place in Gaborone, Republic of Botswana, on 14-15 August 2015.
The SADC Council of Ministers is a statutory body responsible for overseeing implementation of SADC policies, programmes and decisions. The current meeting in Gaborone is in preparation for the 35th Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for 17-18 August 2015.
The Republic of Botswana is the new Chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), taking over from the Republic of Zimbabwe during this Summit.
SADC is the primary vehicle used by the sub-region to promote balanced and equitable integration among its Member States, and to achieve sustainable development, allowing the region to address the key challenge of unemployment and poverty eradication.
South Africa is one of 15 Member States of SADC, which include Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
