South African Government condemns the recent attack in Tunisia
The South African Government notes with concern the recent terrorist attack in Tunis, Tunisia claiming the lives of 12 members of the Tunisian Presidential Guard.
The Government of South Africa wishes to extend its condolences to the Government and People of Tunisia as well as the families of the deceased. The South African Government strongly condemns the use of force, violence, intimidation or threats to address socio-political issues or towards the resolution of political disagreements.
South Africa stands firmly with the rest of the international community in its condemnation of attacks targeting innocent civilians and reiterates its stance that terrorism, in whatever form and from whichever quarter, cannot be condoned.
South Africa further condemns any act of violence which seeks to undermine the democratic transition of Tunisia. The South African Embassy in Tunis, Tunisia, is monitoring the situation and has contacted the Tunisian Authorities to ascertain security measures being taken, with particular reference to the CAF Confederations Cup Final which sees Orlando Pirates take on Etoile Sportive du Sahel in Sousse, Tunisia.
All South Africans living in or visiting Tunis are advised to register on the ROSA system and be in contact with the Embassy, they are also reminded that a curfew has been imposed between 9pm and 5am in the greater Tunis area until further notice.
