Ambassador Mamabolo holds Bilateral Meeting with the President of the General Assembly
New York- Today, 16 January 2015, H.E. Ambassador Kingsley Mamabolo, Permanent Representative of South Africa to the United Nations and Chairperson of the Group of 77 + China met with H.E. Mr. Sam Kahamba Kutesa, President of the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly. They exchanged views on the priorities of the General Assembly during this session and South Africa’s chair-ship of the G77 + China, including the Post-2015 Development Agenda and its implementation, climate change and cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations.
President Kutesa congratulated South African delegation under the leadership of Ambassador Mamabolo on assuming the chair ship of the G77 + China and expressed confidence that the Group will achieve its objective during 2015. He committed to working closely with South Africa to promote the African Agenda through leadership roles in both strategic organizations.
Ambassador Mamabolo echoed the sentiments of the PGA on the need to work together and emphasized South Africa’s readiness to coordinate and share information where relevant with the PGA. Accordingly, Ambassador Mamabolo extended an invitation to President Kutesa to address and interact with the G77 +China at the appropriate date. Both leaders underscored the importance of working closely on areas of mutual agreement and managing issues of divergence.
Additionally, the issue of the active participation of the African member states in the G77 +China as well as General Assembly activities was highlighted.
Both leaders agreed to continue to meet regularly and collaborate on matters of importance to the respective Offices.
