Mr RA Lees (DA) to ask the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation:
1) What was the (a) total amount spent and (b) breakdown of the specified expenditure on each specified foreign mission, including (i) South African embassies, (ii) South African high commissions, (iii) South African consulates and (iv) any other specified formations in the 2014-15 financial year;
2) what was the (a) total amount spent and (b) the breakdown of the specified expenditure on all foreign missions in the 2014-15 financial year?
Reply:
1. (a) The total amount spent by the department in 2014/15 financial year is R5, 9 billion.
(b) (i) South African embassies, R 1, 8 billion
(ii) South African high commissions, R714 million
(iii) South African consulates, R 361 million
(iv) any other specified formations (Office of representative) R271 million
2. (a) The total amount spent on all foreign missions in 2014/15 financial year is R3, 2 billion.
(b) Breakdown of South Africa’s Foreign Missions expenditure is enclosed as annexure A
