MR AM SHAIK EMAN (NFP) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION:

Whether, with reference to the Syrian refugees who are living in the most horrendous conditions and aggravated by the refusal of some countries to allow them entry, South Africa as a caring nation will consider accepting some refugees; if not, why not; if so, when?

REPLY:

The Department of Home Affairs controls, regulates and facilitates immigration and the movement of persons through ports of entry. It also provides civics and immigration services at foreign missions; and determines the status of asylum seekers and refugees in accordance with the international obligations.
