President Zuma sends condolences to Ecuador and Japan following deadly earthquakes
President Jacob Zuma, has today, Sunday, 17 April 2016, on behalf of the Government and the people of South Africa, extended the country’s deepest condolences to Japan and Ecuador, following the deadly natural disasters that struck both countries this week.
Japan was struck by a series of massive earthquakes in southern Japan, near the regional capital of Kumamoto on the Kyushu Island this week. A deadly earthquake also struck Ecuador's central coast this weekend.
President Zuma said: “I wish to extend our condolences to H.E Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, H.E President Rafael Correa, the Government and the people of Japan and Ecuador, respectively. The people of South Africa share the pain and loss of the loved ones, their homes and property, and our thoughts and prayers go to all the affected families. We also wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
South Africans in Japan and Ecuador or family members in South Africa requiring assistance, are requested to contact the South African Embassies in Lima and Tokyo or the Department at 012 351 1000.
