Deputy Minister Mfeketo concludes visit to Jordan

International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Ms Nomaindiya Mfeketo has concluded a successful visit to Jordan. The Deputy Minister held bilateral talks with her counterpart, Mr Mohammad BANI-TAISEER, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

The two deputy ministers exchanged views on bilateral relations and also on political developments in the Middle East region. Multilateral issues of concern, which included discussions on the conflicts in Syria, Libya, Iraq and the Palestine/Israel issue, were also discussed. Deputy Minister Mfeketo expressed South Africa’s commitment to take relations with Jordan to a higher level and committed to working with Jordan to address challenges facing the Middle East region.

Deputy Minister Mfeketo commended Jordan for continuing to accommodate about 1,3 million refugees from Iraq, Palestine and Syria.  The Deputy Minister conveyed to Jordan that the South African government will continue to use all appropriate global platforms to mobilise support for Syrians refugees.

On the Palestine/Israel issue, the two Deputy Ministers committed to support without reservation the just cause of the Palestine people for a free and independent Palestine based on the 1967 borders.
