Deputy Minister Mfeketo is in Syria on an official visit

International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Nomaindiya Mfeketo arrived in Damascus the capital city of Syria on an official visit. The visit to Syrian Arab Republic comes within the context of strengthening bilateral and economic relations between South Africa and the countries in the Levant region.

This visit will afford Deputy Minister Mfeketo on behalf of the South African Government to get updates on the current developments in Syria and enhance South Africa's understanding regarding the challenges confronting the Syrians and Middle East region as whole.

In this regard, Deputy Minister Mfeketo will hold bilateral engagements with her counterpart the Vice Minister of Foreign and Expatriates, Dr Faisal Mekdad and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Mr Walid al-Mouallem.

In an effort to expand and identify areas of economic cooperation, Deputy Minister Mfeketo will also hold discussions with the Syrian Minister of Economy and Trade, Dr Humam al-Jazaeri.

Bilateral relations between the two countries are cordial.
