Ms D Carter (Cope) to ask the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation:

(1) Whether her department had requested any urgent meeting with the United States (US) Embassy or with the Secretary of State, Mr John Kerry to furnish proof of the embassy fomenting insurrection with a view to achieving a regime change in South Africa; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;

(2) whether she will make a statement on the role of the US government through its embassy? NW496E

REPLY:

(1) No.

South Africa enjoys a strong cordial relationship with the US. Various channels of communication are open for both sides should they see the need to discuss any issue. The two Ministers normally do so under the auspices of Strategic Dialogue which they co-chair.
