Deputy Minister Landers to undertake an official visit to Central America

The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, HE Mr Luwellyn Landers, will visit the Republic of El Salvador and the Republic of Honduras from 28 March to 04 April 2017 as part of South Africa’s continuing outreach to the countries of Latin America.

The visit to El Salvador comes as the two countries approach the 20th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations, and the Deputy Minister will hold discussions with his counterpart, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Integration and Economic Promotion, Mr Carlos Castaneda.  The two Deputy Ministers will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations during their meeting.

In Honduras, Deputy Minister Landers will meet with the Under-Secretary of State responsible for Cooperation and International Relations, Ambassador Maria del Carmen Nasser, for discussions on bilateral and multilateral matters.

The visit to Honduras coincides with the Festival of Ethnicity, focusing on Afro-South American cultural relations. The Deputy Minister will also meet the Director of the National Garifuna Ballet of Honduras and the Afro-Descendant Diaspora Community of Honduras based in Tegucigalpa (ODECO).

The visit will also serve to raise awareness of South Africa in Central America and to highlight opportunities for future co-operation between South Africa and Central American states.
