Deputy Minister Landers signs MoU on Political Consultations with Ecuador
The Deputy Minister of International Relations, Mr Luwellyn Landers, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultations between the Department of International Relations and Co-operation of the Republic of South Africa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ecuador.
The Ambassador of Ecuador in South Africa, Her Excellency Ms Maria Soledad Cordova-Montero, signed the MoU on behalf of the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry.
The MoU is the first to be concluded between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1994. The memorandum makes provision for regular consultations between the two Departments, and is intended to encourage and support various forms of cooperation, as well as the negotiation, subscription and implementation of bilateral and international agreements.
It is expected that the memorandum will enhance coordination, cooperation and an exchange of views and information, as well as mutual support where possible, between the two countries in various areas of mutual interest.
The Deputy Minister also congratulated the Republic of Ecuador on the recent election of Mr Lenin Moreno of the ruling Alliance Pais Movement as the new President of Ecuador.
