South Africa to host the 17th Indian Ocean Rim Association Council of Ministers’ Meetings

South Africa will assume the role of Chair for Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) in October 2017 taking over from Indonesia. In this regard the Country will host the 17th Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Council of Ministers' Meetings from 14 - 18 October 2017 in Durban under the theme: “IORA – uniting the peoples of Africa, Asia, Australasia, and the Middle East through enhanced co-operation for peace, stability and sustainable development”.

The aim of the Association is to promote trade liberalisation and trade cooperation between the member states with activities focusing on trade facilitation, investment promotion and economic cooperation.

The IORA Council of Ministers meeting will take place on the 18th of October and will be preceded by the following activities:

  • 14 October – IORA Academic Groups
  • 15 October – IORA Working Groups on Trade and Investment
  • 16 October – IORA Senior officials meeting
  • 17 October – IORA Interactive Dialogue Partners

Members of the media are invited to apply for accreditation by filling out the attached form and returning it to rachidis@dirco.gov.za and copy mtshalip@dirco.gov.za
