Minister Nkoana-Mashabane to deliver DIRCO's Budget Vote Speech to Parliament
International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane will deliver the Budget Vote Speech of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation to Parliament on Thursday, 25 May 2017.
Significantly, the Minister's speech coincides with Africa Day, the day on which Africans across the continent celebrate the founding in 1963 of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which has been transformed into the African Union (AU).
Accordingly, the Minister's speech is expected to outline plans and programmes to be implemented in the financial year 2017/2018 aimed at consolidating relations between South Africa and the world.
The Minister will also outline how the Department plans to utilise its allocated budget for the 2017/2018 financial year to pursue South Africa's foreign policy objectives and national interests.
During the course of the financial year, South Africa will assume the roles of chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Indian Ocean RIM Association (IORA). The country will also continue the serve in other important international organs, including the African Union Peace and Security Council and the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Prior to the delivery of the Budget Vote Speech, the Minister will participate in an Africa Day Dialogue. The media is invited as follows:
