South Africa sends condolence message to Guatemala following volcanic eruption
The President of the Republic of South Africa, H.E. Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, has, on behalf of the Government and the people of South Africa, offered his deepest condolences to the President of the Republic of Guatemala, HE Mr Jimmy Morales, his Government and the people of Guatemala following the recent volcanic eruption which occurred in that country.
According to reports, the volcanic eruption claimed scores of lives, while many more were injured.
President Ramaphosa assured the people of Guatemala that South Africans will keep them in their thoughts during this trying time.
The South African Embassy in Mexico City is in contact with our Honorary Consul in Guatemala, who confirmed that thus far, no South African has been affected or approached the authorities for assistance. It has also been confirmed that international flights were available in the event that a need for evacuation should arise.
