Deputy Minister Landers to attend the UN Human Rights Council Session in Switzerland

The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Luwellyn Landers, will participate in a series of meetings at the High-Level Segment of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva, Switzerland, from 26-28 February 2018.

The HRC meets against the background of numerous challenges in the world that impact on human rights, peace and security and development. The Council presents an opportunity for developing countries, including South Africa, to ensure that human rights and development issues are made central to any future discussions in the United Nation (UN) system.

The High-Level Segment will be held from 26–28 February 2018, and the Deputy Minister’s attendance of the High-Level Segment will amplify South Africa’s high regard for the Human Rights Council.

The High-Level Segment will be attended by a number of Heads of State, including the UN Secretary General.

The Deputy Minister will deliver South Africa’s national statement at the High Level Segment and during High-Level Panel debates.

On the margins of the 37th Session, Deputy Minister Landers will have bilateral meetings with various leaders of various delegations.
