President Ramaphosa congratulates his Venezuelan counterpart
The President of the Republic of South Africa, H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa, has, on behalf of the government and the people of South Africa, congratulated his Venezuelan counterpart, H.E. Mr Nicolás Maduro Moros, following the outcome of the elections held on Sunday, 20 May 2018, that saw President Maduro Moros re-elected for a further six-year term.
President Ramaphosa said the overwhelming victory of 67% achieved by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) as announced by the National Electoral Council on Monday, 21 May 2018, reassured the world that the people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela have once again exercised their democratic right to elect a leadership that is representative of their needs.
President Ramaphosa indicated that South Africa and Venezuela share strong political and historic ties dating back to the struggle against apartheid. The President reassured Venezuela of South Africa’s continued support while the country is engaged in mitigating challenges.
